PTI expresses reservations over Pakistan Protection Bill

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Wednesday expressed reservations over recently passed ‘Pakistan Protection Bill’, ARY News reported.

PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi spoke in the National Assembly today that his party could not endorse the law. The PTI did not take part in voting for the bill, terming it ‘controversial’.

Opposition leader Khursheed Shah said Pakistan army needed solidarity at this stage. Pakistan People’s Party will support government whether they hold talks or launch operation against the terrorists, he added.

He feared that militants might not enter Sindh disguised as displaced persons of North Waziristan.

MQM leader Farooq Sattar said Pakistan was in a state of war; Pakistan army is rendering sacrifices, hence a law is needed to boost morale of army, opined Sattar.

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed was of the view that courts could not every sentence the influential segment in the country.

Later the house unanimously adopted the Pakistan Protection Bill. The Senate had already passed legislation on June 30 after certain amendments. The Bill which seeks “to provide for protection against waging of war against Pakistan and the prevention of acts threatening the security of Pakistan” will provide the law enforcers with additional powers. Under the bill, law enforcers will be bound to issue warning before shooting a suspect.
