PTI govt to turn Punjab’s jails into ‘Dar ul Islah’: prisons minister

OKARA: Provincial Minister for Prisons Zawar Hussain Warraich on Thursday visited district Jail Okara and planted araucaria plant under PM’s Clean and Green Pakistan Project, ARY News reported.

According to a statement issued from his office, the minister said that through implementation of positive policies, the Punjab government will turn province’s prisons into “Dar ul Islah” (rehabilitation centers)

The minister said that the prisoners’ data of all of province’s jails will be computerized, prisoners will be made skillful through TEVTA and cottage industry at lower level in the jail.

He said that under prime minister’s vision of legislation will be carried out for improving the service delivery system for the masses and the eradication of corruption of the department.

“The minister said that lists are being prepared of those prisoners who are unable to pay fine and “Deaat” so that measure could be taken for their early release. Provincial Minister Social Welfare and Provincial Minister Bait ul Maal are on board in this regard,” said Warraich.

He said that non-officials visitors committees are being setup for district and central jails in Punjab which will pay visit to different jails of the Punjab and reforms would be introduced under their recommendations.

The provincial minister maintained that Prime Minister Imran Khan promised to increase the salaries and pay scales of the employees of the prisons.

Earlier, DIG Jail Kamran Anjum and Superintendent Jail Noor Hassan Baghela welcomed the minister who visited the jail without any protocol.

Zawar Hussain Warraich said that measures are being taken according the vision of Imran Khan for promoting the culture of austerity and merit.

Later, the minister visited the hospital of district jail and inquired after the patients of the hospital.

He also inspected the store of the medicines and standard of the food in the kitchen of the jail and went to the wards of the prisoners and inspected the water filtration plant.
