PTI invites ex-Indian cricketers to attend Imran’s oath-taking ceremony

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has invited former Indian cricketers to attend oath-taking ceremony of Imran Khan as prime minister, which is expected to be held on August 18, ARY News reported.

Talking to media outside Bani Gala in Islamabad, PTI Senator Faisal Javed confirmed ex-Indian cricketers Kapil Dev, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sunil Gavaskar were contacted through phone and invited to attend the oath-taking event.

“Cricket legends from India and Kaptaan’s old friends Kapil Dev, Sidhu and Sunil Gavaskar have been invited to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan,” he said.

He said members of the Pakistan team that won the World Cup 1992 were also sent invitations in this regard.

Faisal Javed wrote on his social media account, “Imran Khan to take oath as Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on the 18th Aug 2018 inshALLAH.”

Earlier, it was also rumoured that Bollywood actor Amir Khan was also invited to the said ceremony which could not be confirmed.

The cabinet minister of India’s Punjab, Navjot Sidhu, on August 2 said he had accepted the invitation extended by the PTI chief for attending his swearing-in ceremony as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

“It is (a) great honour, I accept the invitation. Men of genius are admired, men of power are feared, but men of character are trusted. Khan Sahab is a man of character. He can be trusted. Sportsmen build bridges, break barriers, unite people,” Sidhu said.

Now, President Mamnoon Hussain has called the National Assembly session on August 13 where the newly elected members of the NA will take oath which will be followed by the elections of the speaker and deputy speaker.

Imran is scheduled to take oath on August 18.

As soon as the newly-elected prime minister would take oath, the job of the caretakers would be over and power would be transferred to the newly elected government under the law and the Constitution.
