PTI, JUIF in face-off over 22nd Amendment

TOP NEWS

According to details, a government delegation comprising of Information Minister Pervez Rasheed and Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique called on the JUIF chief, Maulana Fazlur Rahman in order to convince him to support the amendment.

However, the JUIF chief refused to back the amendment legalizing polls for the Senate through ‘show of hand’, instead of secret balloting.

At this, the information minister said that he will convey Maulana Fazlur Rahman’s reservations to the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif and these will surely be addressed.

Fazl had already declined to support the bill two days ago, saying that it was aimed at bringing Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) back to the National Assembly (NA).

The JUIF chief on Saturday again criticized PTI saying that it seeks a return to the Parliament.

To which, PTI central information secretary, Shireen Mazari reacted that the JUIF chief fears an end to his ‘game of money’ in the Senate of Pakistan.

She went on to say, “Maulana Fazlur Rahman’s morals do not bar him from joining a government formed after the rigging of polls”.

The federal government and the PTI are in favor of the proposed 22nd Amendment to prevent horse-trading in the Senate elections due on March 5.
