PTI rejects NA body to probe Gulalai’s harassment allegations

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday rejected the NA body to probe harassment allegations of MNA Ayesha Gulalai against its chairman Imran Khan, ARY News reported.

PTI’s chief whip in the National Assembly, Shireen Mazari, wrote a letter to the speaker of the assembly, conveying the party’s reservations over the constitution of the ethics committee to probe harassment allegations of Gulalai. She told the speaker that the party has rejected the committee because it would be comprised of majority of the parliamentarians belonging to the PML-N. “Opponents cannot conduct transparent probe and ensure justice in the matter,” she said.

MNA Ayesha Gulalai Wazir had earlier announced to leave the party in a press conference, accusing her party chairman Imran Khan and his cronies of sending indecent text messages to female members.

Earlier, Imran Khan had welcomed PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s decision to constitute a committee to probe into Gulalai allegations. He challenged investigators to trace connection of alleged lewd messages with his number. “Giving priority to investigation into the allegations over plans to recover damages incurred due to countrywide floods simply shows the government’s preferences,” he had said in a tweet.

Imran said the rival parties, after failing to prove anything against him despite filing several petitions, are now coming up with different ways and tactics to malign him.
