Punjab CM lifts ban on parole, orders shifting 400 inmates to KP

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has lifted a ban on parole to provide relief to prisoners.

The chief minister has issued instructions to the Home Department in this regard. He also issued directives for shifting 400 prisoners incarcerated in jails of Punjab to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

He said immediate action should be taken as per law to send them to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The move is aimed at helping their relatives and families to meet them more conveniently, he said, adding that prisoners also had basic human rights.

The chief minister said he gathering information about conditions of inmates in Punjab prisons and vowed to provide them facilities as per jail manual. He said children of woman inmates be also taken care of in proper manner.

Earlier, on April 18, the Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed that 81 people were incarcerated in different jails of the city due to non-payment of fines, diyat amount imposed on them.

The figures of prisoners were shared by inspector general jail affairs with the LHC bench. Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar conducted proceedings of the case.

On a petition filed by Nadeem Sarwar Advocate, the IG Prisons told the court that efforts were afoot to get those prisoners released who had no resources to pay fines.
