Islamabad United beat Quetta Gladiators by 1 run in last over thriller

DUBAI: Islamabad United beat Quetta Gladiators by 1 run in a PSL 2017 encounter which went till the last ball, ARY News reported.

Quetta Gladiators needed 5 runs off the last over but instead the IU fielders and Mohammad Sami, who bowled the last over made it difficult for Quetta to score runs and they lost the match by 1 run.

Ahmed Shahzad scored 59 runs while Kevin Pietersen scored 69 off 43 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes and during their partnership it looked like Quetta will easily chase the target of 167 runs given by Islamabad United but Sami’s last over did the trick for Islamabad.

Helped by a quick 50 by young Hussain Talat, Islamabad United put on board against Quetta Gladiators after being put into bat by Quetta which won the toss.

Talat scored 56 off 39 balls after Islamabad lost their opener Smith on a duck and kept runs coming for the United team. Other than Talat, skipper Misbah scored 25 runs while Shane Watson ended the innings with 29 off 16 balls.

It is pertinent to note here that Quetta Gladiators have already qualified for the next round of the T20 league while this was a must-win match for the Islamabad side if they wish to qualify for the play-offs.
