Ranveer Singh wants a ‘Padmaavat’ sequel based on Alauddin Khilji’s life

After the roaring success of controversial film ‘Padmaavat’, actor Ranveer Singh has expressed desire that a sequel of the movie should be made based on the life of Muslim emperor Alauddin Khilji.

“I sometimes think we should make Padmaavat 2 on the life of Khiji. This chapter on Padmaavat is just a small portion of his life,” he said speaking to India’s Zee News.

“It is of course possible to make a film on the life of Khilji.”

Ranveer has become the most sought after actor after the success of the film and has reportedly also hiked his fees.

Ranveer revealed that he practiced method acting during the film shooting, and even appeared as Khilji when they were not shooting.

“When I use to come to the set, I came in as Alauddin Khilji. When there was any other scene, I was also backstage as him.”

Padmaavat

Ranveer said he had no idea how the audience would respond to the film as he was playing a negative role for the first time, but he said he was pleased that people have matured and responded well.

The magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’ directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali which also stars Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles was released last month amid protests by hardliner groups in India.

The film is losely based on a fictional poem ‘Padmaavat’ and revolves around Rani Padmavati, the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh, who is known for her beauty and valour and She captures the fancy of the reigning Sultan of Delhi Alauddin Khilji who becomes obsessed with her.

Ranver was praised for his prowess acting, body language, dialogue delivery and spellbinding expressions in the film leaving people mesmerised. However, he also stoked criticism for portraying the 13th century emperor as evil and a tyrant.

Ranveer is now busy with Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy with Alia Bhatt, and has biopic on Kapil Dev and Rohit Shetty’s  pot-boiler Simmba in the pipeline.
