KARACHI: Angry protesters took to streets in Karachi’s Orangi Town area over the alleged rape and murder of a six-year-old girl, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Residents of the area protested and blocked roads after body of Rabia, a six-year-old girl, was found from a garbage heap in Manghopir area with the autopsy report confirming that the minor was sexually abused before being strangled to death.

Police say the girl was missing since April 15, Sunday, and turned up dead on Monday night.

The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the medical examination proved that “the child was raped” and has torture marks on her body.

SSP West Omar Shahid told media that three people nominated in the “missing” FIR registered by victim’s father have been arrested while the third one is still at large.

He added that DNA samples have been taken to arrest the culprits behind the gruesome crime.

A large number of people from the area took to streets and demanded befitting punishment for the culprits. Reports say police had opened fire to disperse the protesters leaving one dead and three others injured.

The case comes at a time when Pakistan is still reeling from the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab Ansari in Kasur.

Kidnapped on January 4 and found from a garbage heap on January 9, Zainab’s autopsy report suggested that the minor was sexually assaulted before being strangulated to death.

On January 21, the Supreme Court gave three days’ time to a joint investigation team formed to probe the rape and murder of Zainab to track down the culprit.

The JIT arrested the culprit named Imran Arshad on January 23 after the DNA proved that he was behind the rape and murder of Zainab and at least eight other girls from Kasur.
