Ray Price, the country singer dead at 87

Los Angeles: US country singer Ray Price, who started out with the likes of Hank Williams and Willie Nelson back in the 1950s, died Monday aged 87.

Price, who recently announced he was in the final days of a battle with pancreatic cancer, died surrounded by loved ones in Texas.

In a career which spanned over six decades his hits included “For the Good Times” and “Crazy Arms,” while he also had a couple of big screen roles including 1982’s “Honkytonk Man.”Only two weeks ago he was looking forward to the release of his next album, which he called “one of the greatest things I’ve ever recorded,” according to Rolling Stone.

But on Monday country radio veteran Bill Mack, who has acted as a family spokesman, said Price’s wife Janie called him to confirm the singer had died.
