LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Education Murad Raas on Friday said that parents should develop book reading habit among children alongside formal education, ARY News reported.
Addressing a ceremony organized by private school system titled “Parents as Reading Partners”, the minister maintained that developing reading habit among children will result in encouraging critical thinking among children and increase their general knowledge.
The minister said that parents should spend time with their children on daily basis and develop the habit of reading additional books for encouraging critical thinking among young souls.
Murad Raas stated that book reading will enhance students’ awareness and they will be able to understand the realities of life in better manner.
He said lamented that excessive use of social media has resulted in keeping children and young generation away from book reading.
“Educationists and communication experts should evolve such strategy which can prevent youth from negative use of communication technology as this the only way to motivate youth for utilizing their knowledge for the constructive purpose,” said Murad Raas.
The education minister said that Pakistani parents should ensure that their children give full attention on book reading along with textbooks as it is a symbol of an educated society.
The ceremony was attended by teachers, students, parents and people from various walks of life.
