Records that were broken by Pakistan in Pallekele Test

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the third and final test match to clinch the three match test series.

– Pakistan’s run chase against Sri Lanka is the second highest successful run chase in the subcontinent after India’s 387/4 vs England at Chennai in 2008.

– The third-wicket partnership of 242 runs between Shan Masood and Younis Khan was the team’s highest for any wicket in the fourth innings of a Test match. It is also the sixth highest in Test history. The previous milestone was the 212 run stand (also 3rd wkt) between Mudassar Nazar and Javed Miandad against the Kiwis at Hyderabad in November 1984.

– Younis Khan is now the first Test batsman to score five centuries in the fourth innings of a Test match. Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, Ramnaresh Sarwan & Graeme Smith have also made four tons.

– Younis Khan is now the second batsman from any visiting country to score 1,000-plus runs on Sri Lankan grounds, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 1,155 runs.

– Younis Khan’s unbeaten knock of 171 was his 11th Test score of more than 150, now the most by a Pakistani batsman in Tests. He passed Javed Miandad who had ten scores of 150 or more.

– This was Pakistan’s highest run chase in Test cricket history. The previous was 315/9 at Karachi vs Australia in 1994. It is also sixth highest successful run chase in Test history.

– Misbah-ul-Haq became the second oldest (41 years and 40 days) to score 4000 runs after England’s Jack Hobbs who was 43 years, 194 days when he achieved the record it in June 1926.

– Younis Khan is about to overtake Pakistan’s leading run takers Javed Miandad (8832) and Inzamam-ul-Haq (8830).
