Emergency measures being taken to reduce number of maternal deaths: Yasmin Rashid

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid on Friday said that emergency measures were being taken to reduce the number of maternal deaths.

She said this in a meeting with a delegation of tThe United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) which called on her in Lahore.

Both the delegation and minister discussed the measures taken for child-mother healthcare in Punjab.

During the meeting, the delegation was briefed about the Prime Minister Health Programme.

Dr Yasmin Rashid said that Punjab government will establish child-mother hospitals in five district of the province.

She welcomed the offer of financial assistance from the UNICEF regarding child-mother healthcare programmes.

The delegation lauded the measures of the Punjab government for provision of best medical facilities in the government hospitals.

In December last year, the Punjab health minister had said that dream of establishment of ‘mother and child hospitals’ were about to come true.

Addressing a ceremony held for fund raising for ‘Sir Gangaram Mother & Child Hospital’ in Lahore, Yasmin Rashid had said that PC-I of the project was being prepared and added that although the Punjab government would provide sources for the scheme however, any cooperation from philanthropists would also be welcomed.

Yasmin Rashid had told the audience that ‘mother & child hospitals’ would also be established in five districts of Punjab and added that the project is being appreciated worldwide.
