Remembering legendary Rangeela on 10th death anniversary

Mohammad Saeed, commonly known as Rangeela, was born on 1st January 1937 in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar area.

He was passionate about physical exercise from his childhood. Even on a few occasions, he was reported sayinf that he would have been a body builder if he was not a TV actor.

He learnt painting and moved to Peshawar for work. He also painted movie poster for making ends meet.

The comedian was casted in his first film named “Jatti” which was released in 1958 and directed by M.J. Rana. The film became a huge hit and the shows were house-full.

Rangeela directed his first film named “Diya aur Toofaan” which was well received by the nation. He opened his production house by the name of “Rangeela Productions”.

He played the main character in the 1970 film named “Rangeela”. He also starred in film “Dil aur Dunya”  along with actors Habib and Aasiya.

He won the award for best screenplay writers for Naukar Tay Malik, Sona Chaandi, Miss Colombo, Baaghi Qaidi and Teen Yakke Teen Chay. He won the award for Best Director in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1983, 1984, 1986, and 1991 Nigar Awards.

Government of Pakistan rewarded Rangeela the Pride of Performance Award in 2004.

The comedian passed away on 24th May 2005 at the age of 68 years and is survived by eight daughters and six sons.

His films and acting are still being remembered by the nation today.
