Lahore: On 69th birth anniversary of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan the heir to the legacy of Qawwali and NFAK’s nephew, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan remembers him in his own words.
“This is the day on which, 13th October, 1948, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was born and in our family, I have heard, the atmosphere was like some saint has been born.”
“His 69th birth anniversary and 20 years to his death but even today music lovers have kept him alive in their hearts be it in the form of Dam Mast Qalandar, Sanu aik pal Chain na aave, Tumhe Dillagi or in the form of Mere Rashk e Qamar.” said Rahat.
As a tribute to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is doing a total of 48 concerts. Speaking of the great response the tribute to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan tour received, Rahat says:
“Special response, what do I tell you, we are getting in a way that we have never gotten before. I’ll tell you we went to England after 1.5 years, England gave us such a response, New York, Canada, North America they have given us such good response especially in Qawwalis. It feels like one Qawwali has proved to be a comeback for Qawwalis called Rashk e Qamar.”
