Regional CWC Assistance and Protection Centre inaugurated in Islamabad

According to Foreign Office statement, the Regional Center is an important contribution of Pakistan towards effective implementation of the Chemicals Weapons Convention (CWC). The Center will offer capacity building courses to CWC State Parties from South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East, and will also help in the exchange of best practices amongst these States.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Fatemi commended the efforts of the Strategic Plans Division, National Engineering and Scientific Commission and the Defense Science and Technology Organization for the establishment of the Regional Center. He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fully implement all its national and international obligations under the CWC.

Ambassador Ahmet Uzumcu welcomed the establishment of the Regional Center and expressed his gratitude to Pakistan for its continued support for the work of the OPCW.

Later, the SAPM and the Director General OPCW witnessed the proceedings of the ongoing Advanced International Assistance and Protection Course at the Regional Center and met the course participants.

The Director General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is currently on an official visit to Pakistan.
