ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhary on Monday said resolution of issues of lawyer community was the top priority of the government, ARY News reported.
“All powerful institutes are jointly bringing real change. The government wants to bring revolutionary reforms in the system of provision of justice,” he said while talking to a delegation of the Islamabad High Court Bar led by President Raja Inaam Minhas in Islamabad. During the meeting, they discussed the issues facing the lawyer community.
Fawad Chaudhary said counsels were protectors of constitution, law, democracy and human rights and they had instrumental role in establishment of rule of law.
On March 13, the Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) had announced to call off protest strike for Tuesday and Friday against rotation of judges.
The strike had been called off after a delegation of the government assured the protestors of fulfillment of their demands. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Finance Minister Asad Umar, Law Minister Farogh Naseem, Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and Minister for Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan were also part of the government delegation.
The district and sessions court lawyers in the federal capital had been on strike since December 2018 over the issue of rotation of judges of the sessions court. The lawyers would hold protest strike twice a week – on Tuesday and Friday.
The protesting lawyers had been demanding rotation i.e. transfer of the judges of the lower courts to the subordinate judiciary of four provincial high courts and posting of judges from these high courts to Islamabad on deputation.
While, the government had proposed that instead of posting judges to other provinces, they may be transferred to federal government departments and ministries in Islamabad.
