SA passes supplementary budget for current year

KARACHI: Sindh Assembly passed the budget of over Rs. 600 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2014/2015 during the session on Wednesday whereas the supplementary budget for fiscal year 2013/2014 was also passed, ARY News reports.

Earlier, the supplementary budget for fiscal year 2013/2014 was passed in the assembly while the cut motions of Rs. 13,13,79,000 from the opposition were rejected by the house.

The session of Sindh Assembly was presided by Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani. The supplementary budget for year 2013/14 was presented by Dr. Sikandar Mendhro.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement, while criticizing the procedures of presenting the supplementary budget, said it should be announced after every six to eight months.

Opposition parties, criticizing the lavish spendings on Governor, Chief Minister, provincial ministers and beaucracy, presented 35 cut motions that were rejected by the house.

Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the vehicles, that were bought in 2007, have been outdated and it was important to buy new ones according to the requirements.

Leader of the Opposition Shehryar Mehr said that luxury spendings take place in those countries where there are no economic problems. He urged the provincial government to review its decisions.

MQM assembly member Syed Sardar Ahmad demanded in the house to present the supplementary budget after every six months on which Dr. Sikandar Mendhro ensured the house that it will be announced after every six months from the next fiscal year.
