Saddar Blast: 'Mosque was not the target', investigators say

According to preliminary investigations the incident was not a suicide bomb attack but the bomb device went off accidentally due to mishandling.

Bomb Disposal Squad’s experts, said that it was a motorcycle-borne improvised explosive device. The explosive material weighed around four kilogrammes. The bomb device was also included steel nails.

Two motorcycles and windowpanes of nearby shops were badly damaged in the explosion.

According to the report, there was no evidence of the use of a remote control or mobile device for detonation of the bomb.

The mosque in Saddar was not the target of the attack but the device was being taken to some other place when the bike collided with another motorbike.

Alleged attacker has been identified as Abdul Fatah s/o Yaqoob. Police in a raid on the house of Abdul Fatah detained three persons including the brother and wife of the accused.

Another motorbike destroyed in the attack had registration number KBX 6567, which was registered in the name of Amir Sultan a resident of Gulshan Iqbal area of Karachi.
