Samina Sindhu's husband demands death for 'murderer' Tariq Jatoi

LARKANA: Husband of slain singer Samina Sindhu, Ashiq Ali, on Thursday said that he himself saw accused Tariq Jatoi shoot his wife during a festive ceremony in Kanga village, ARY News reported.

Samina Sindhu, a local singer, was shot dead on Tuesday while she was performing at a festive ceremony in Kanga village near Larkana for “refusing to stand up and dance”.

“She sang for about 15 minutes, then Niaz Junejo (the one who booked her for performance) came and asked her to stand up, but she didn’t for she was eight months pregnant.. Tariq Jatoi was sitting there, he said shoot her for she is not standing up.. then he fired straight at her,” Samina’s husband Ashiq Ali told ARY News.

He maintained that he and his brother took Samina to Chandka Hospital where she was declared dead. Ashiq Ali said that police wasn’t even ready to take action till they (the artists) staged a sit-in.

When asked if he is satisfied with police’s action, Ashiq Ali, who couldn’t hold his tears, demanded death for Tariq Jatoi, for he not only killed his wife but his child too.

“Police has not even slapped him (accused Tariq Jatoi), he is smiling,” claimed Ashiq Ali.

The murder of Samina Sindhu shocked entire nation after a clip related to incident went viral on social media.

The video,  obtained by ARY News, shows the singer performing at the ceremony before being shot dead. Samina can be seen sitting and serenading the guests before standing up, only to be killed.

ATA clauses included

Interior Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal, who also spoke to ARY News, assured that Samina Sindhu’s family will be provided justice at all costs.

“I, my party’s leadership and the provincial government, will not spare any criminal,” the minister said.

He revealed that the incident occured at about 10:30PM (on Tuesday) and he not only took notice of the incident but personally directed the police to arrest the prime accused and now Anti Terrorism Act clauses have been included in the First Information Report (FIR).

“We want to make sure that if the (slain singer’s) family, under some pressure, forgives the accused, the state can pursue the case,” said the minister.
