TOP NEWS

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday released a suspect imprisoned for five years on charges of rape, ARY News reported.

A three-member apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa released the suspect due to lack of evidence.

The Islamabad High Court had convicted Hussain Ahmed and others in 2014 for allegedly raping two women in Mansehra the same year. The trial court had sentenced men in jail for five years and also imposed a fine. The IHC had rejected an appeal filed by the accused who pleaded not guilty for the crime.

According to defence lawyer, Hussain Ahmed was driving a car and didn’t commit any crime.

The chief justice remarked that the prosecution had failed to prove the offence.

Last month on Feb 25, the Supreme Court Karachi Registry had released a murder convict after almost ten years. The SC bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa transformed the sentence of murder convict Mansoor Khan into punishment and ordered release of the culprit.

Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa had remarked that the exact interpretation of the murder and accidental incident is important, adding the incident should not be considered as an accident, and there is no punishment for accidental incident under section 80.
