SC asks Imran Khan to establish money trail of London apartment

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan to submit complete documents to substantiate that he purchased London apartment using the money he earned abroad by playing cricket.

A three-member bench was hearing the petition filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi seeking disqualification of the PTI chairman and secretary general Jahangir Khan Tareen for not disclosing their assets, owing offshore companies and receiving foreign funds.

Chief Justice, who headed the bench, observed the case will have to be disposed of swiftly for it was not an ordinary case. He  came down hard on the PTI counsel for submitting documents in ‘piecemeal’ and directed the counsel to provide all documents together before the next hearing.

PTI’s Naeem Bukhari told the judges that documents to substantiate Imran Khan’s earning abroad have been received and would soon be placed before them.  They (PTI) have also retrieved the record of party’s foreign funds, which will also be presented to the court before next hearing, he added.

Speaking to reporters outside the apex court, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry ruled out the chances of Imran’s disqualification, saying, “they have documents to substantiate their claims. The financial record of Khan’s properties and party’s foreign have been submitted to the court.”
