SC directs to verify degrees of lawyers enrolled in last decade

LAHORE: Supreme Court on Thursday directed to verify the educational degrees of all lawyers enrolled in the past ten years.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing a suo motu notice at the Lahore registry pertaining to fake degrees by several members of the legal fraternity.

Regarding the expenses required to verify degrees, the apex court directed all universities and law colleges to verify the authenticity of educational degrees within the stipulated time.

Justice Nisar directed to submit detailed all affiliated law colleges in Punjab by July 11. The case was adjourned till after the Eid holidays.

Last month, the top judge had taken a suo motu of fake degrees by several lawyers, and issued notice to all bar council to verify all degrees of lawyers within one month.

During the hearing, Justice Nisar had asked senior lawyer Hamid Khan to find out how many members of the legal fraternity possessed fake degrees, and whether they should be verified.

Hamid Khan agreed that all degrees should be thoroughly checked and scrutinised and was asked to submit an application in this regard.
