SC to hear PML-N plea seeking disqualification of Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court is to hear a petition on Wednesday (today) filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s leader Hanif Abbasi, seeking disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and another party leader Jahangir Tareen, ARY News reported.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, will resume the hearing of the petition which seeks disqualification of PTI leaders on the basis of financial corruption and concealing their actual sources of income.

Talking to media, PML-N leader and petitioner Hanif Abbasi alleged PTI chairman Imran Khan as party to an international conspiracy against Pakistan to slow down the development of the country, which has gained momentum in current tenure of the ruling party.

“We have just challenged the financial corruption done by Khan apart the moral one on the basis of which he lacks moral justification to comment on an elected prime minister”, Abbasi said.

Claiming to have enough evidences, Abbasi further said no Joint Investigation Team (JIT) would be required to probe the corruptions done by the PTI duo. “Evidences are enough to prove them guilty”, he added.

Apprising the media, PML-N leader claimed that Khan owns four offshore companies. He expected the top court would hold hearing of the case on daily basis.

Joining in the conversation with media, another PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz said that both PTI Leaders have persistently avoid confronting accountability by urging dismissal of the references against them.

“Be it Islamabad High Court (IHC) or Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the duo has been avoiding the court proceedings against them”, he added.

Earlier, PTI chairman Imran Khan approached the apex court to dismiss the PML-N’s plea seeking his disqualification.

The PTI chief, through his counsel Naeem Bukhari, in his plea said that the ECP has already rejected reference against him through its March 16 decision.

His lawyer in reply also stated that the petitioner’s allegations are not based on truth as he filed the petition to counter Imran Khan’s petition seeking the PM’s disqualification.

Khan, through his lawyer, has also stated that the petitioner is an accused in the ‘infamous ephedrine scam’ and was defeated by him in the last general election, adding that the petition is merely a misplaced filing to demonstrate loyalty to the current prime minister, whose status on his seat has yet to be determined by a JIT in the first instance, and then the Supreme Court.
