SC rejects ECP plea for delaying LB polls

TOP NEWS

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Monday turned down a request of the election commission for granting more time for holding the elections of local bodies, ARY News reported.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry in his remarks said that it is not the responsibility of the court to arrange for the paper and ink for the polls.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) submitted a petition to the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking more time to hold local bodies elections.

While filing the petition, ECP stated that the provinces have not formed the constituencies.

ECP pleaded to the court that four months would be required as ECP would have to arrange the ballot papers and magnetic ink after Provincial Governments announce the constituencies in their respective provinces.
