ISLAMABAD: In its very first hearing on Wednesday (today), the three-member special bench of Supreme Court, which formed to monitor Joint Investigation Team (JIT)’s operations, has rejected the nominees of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) on the JIT, formed to probe money trail and offshore properties of the Sharif family, ARY News reported.
The apex court ruled that no head of state institution can appoint any nominee for the proposed JIT by summoning Governor State Bank and Chairman SECP in next hearing due on Friday.
The three-member special bench expressed dissatisfaction over the names of nominees proposed for the JIT and directed Governor SBP and Chairman SECP to come along a list containing the names of 18-grade officers by ruling that the bench would pick the names for the JIT that would probe the matter.
It should be recalled here that a bench of the apex court in its judgment announced on April 20, ordered formation of a JIT under the court’s supervision to investigate the money trail and other unanswered questions of the case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his two sons Hassan and Hussain Nawaz.
The JIT was to be formed of the members from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Accountability Bureau (NAB), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Security & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI).
The top court on Tuesday formed a three-member special bench to ensure implementation of apex court’s verdict on Panamagate scandal and monitor the JIT operations.
