SC to Govt: Produce Missing Persons within 7 days

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court in missing persons case on Tuesday ordered the governemtn to produce 35 missing persons before the court within seven days, ARY News reported. 

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry observed that no military institution have right to retain the people in illegal detention.  

The court also ordered the federal and provincial governments to ensure recovery of the missing persons and their production before the court within seven days.

Earlier, the court observed that the government has failed to comply the orders of the Supreme Court in Balochistan missing persons case.

The court resented over non production of the missing persons before the court. The Chief Justice said that the Prime Minister has also been aware about the matter through his Minister of Defence.

Earlier, Acting Defence Secretary Arif Nazir informed the court that due to serious security issues the missing persons could not be produced before the court. 

The court refused to hear the explanation of the Defence Secretary and asked why the court’s orders were not complied. The court also observed that it has been proved that the military personnel had taken custody of 35 missing persons from Malakand detention centre. The court will issue orders and the executive authority will be asked to implement the court orders, the bench observed.
