ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan will hear a petition on Monday (today) seeking disqualification of Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah over allegedly holding a foreign work permit (Iqama).
An appeal against a Sindh High Court ruling that rejected a petition seeking disqualification of Murad Ali Shah for failing to disclose his Canadian nationality and United Arab Emirates Iqama to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar will hear the appeal in Islamabad. The other two members of the bench are Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.
Petitioner Roshan Ali Buriro in his plea said, Murad Ali Shah, while concealing his UAE work permit and lying in front of the electoral body, is no more truthful and honest, thus he should be declared disqualified.
Separately, a petition had been filed in the Sindh High Court against the key PPP leaders Faryal Talpur, Manzoor Wasan, Nasir Hussain Shah, Sohail Anwar Siyal and others for allegedly holding work permits of a foreign country and not disclosing it in their nomination papers for elections.
SHC has been awaiting a detailed response from the ECP as during the last hearing, it submitted a vague and one page response regarding all the accused.
Notices had been sent to the electoral body in this regard.
The commission was given time until October 9 by the SHC to submit its final rejoinder.
