SC to take up reopening of Aisha Bawany College case on Sept 23

KARACHI: Supreme Court of Pakistan is to take up the matter of reopening of Aisha Bawany Government College on September 23,  as the government officials earlier vowed to open the college while terming loss of education intolerable.  

The top court will conduct hearing on the issue on September 23 after the trust officials refused to open the premises despite a court order.

On Tuesday (yesterday), a large number of students reached the college premises to attend the classes when they were denied entry into the premises.

Earlier, Sindh High Court (SHC) had ordered the reopening of the college after suspending a lower court’s order that issued directives to seal the premises while hearing a plea filed by the trust.

A brawl broke out between the government officials and Aisha Bawanay Trust yesterday when members of trust body refused t open the gates amid presence of large number of students.

Sindh Education Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar vowed to have the college opened as he said the loss of education was intolerable.

On the flip side, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also took the notice of the incident and called for immediate reopening of the college.

The trust officials maintained that the court’s bailiff had ordered the sealing of the building.

Meanwhile, education department officials blame the trust for sealing the premises.
