School principal sentenced to 105-yrs imprisonment for allegedly harassing teachers

PESHAWAR: A session court of Peshawar has handed principal of a private school imprisonment of 105 years for allegedly sexually harassing and recording videos of children and lady teachers of the school, ARY News reported.

ARY News correspondent Adnan Tariq said a complaint was filed at Hayatabad police station against Attaullah, following which a team headed by an ASP was formed to arrest the suspect.

“Police confiscated laptops, mobile phone and other gadgets of the principal. The said videos were found in those devices,” he said.

He said the court had fined him Rs1.04 million along with the prison term.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Sindh cabinet the following month approved the ‘Sindh Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2018’ and directed the CM’s adviser on law to go through its clauses and send it to the assembly for approval.

The purpose of the bill, presented by Women Development Department, is to make provision for the protection against harassment of women at their respective workplaces and address their issues through legal framework.

Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai announced on Thursday that the company had fired 48 employees for sexual harassment over the past two years.

Pichai sent an email to Google employees in response to a New York Times story that was published earlier in the day.

The report said the search engine giant protected three senior executives from allegations of sexual misconduct by offering them payouts.

The email, a copy of which was seen by wire services, said of the 48 that were fired, 13 were senior managers or held more senior posts.

However, Pichai said none of those employees received an exit package.

The email, which was also signed by Google’s vice president of people operations Eileen Naughton, said that company employees could use internal tools to report cases of inappropriate behavior anonymously.
