PESHAWAR/LAHORE: The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has introduced a four-day working week. Under this new schedule, schools will remain closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In contrast, Punjab has rejected the four-day working week proposal, ARY News reported.
The official notification issued by the KP Education Department confirmed that Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will now be weekly holidays.
The new system aims to make the education sector more organized while conserving resources. According to the notification, the four-day schedule takes effect immediately, as of April 1.
Government schools in KP will now conduct classes from Monday to Thursday. Sources indicate that daily teaching hours may be slightly extended to ensure the syllabus is completed and to prevent any loss of learning for students.
The department has urged all district officers to strictly enforce the new schedule.
On the other hand, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hyat has rejected the suggestion of a four-day working week.
The Provincial Minister labeled such reports as “fake and fabricated,” advising parents and students to ignore the rumors.
He clarified that the era of closing educational institutions due to economic pressure has ended and that all schools will remain open as usual.
He urged students to disregard unverified notifications and focus on their studies. The Minister also stated that no decisions regarding online or hybrid classes are currently under consideration.
It is worth noting that schools in Punjab, which had been closed since March 10, reopened today, April 1.
