IGP Sindh orders police to stay on a high alert across province

KARACHI: Sindh police were put on a red alert by the higher authorities on Wednesday besides immediate establishment of special command & control centres across the province, ARY News reported.

The directives were issued after an extraordinary meeting held under the chair of Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam for reviewing law and order situation.

IGP Imam ordered Central Police Office (CPO) to initiate continuous monitoring through the command & control centres.

Holidays of police officers and other staff members were suspended whereas reserve platoons, commando units and all police vehicles were also put on alert across the province.

Security measures were also beefed up in and around consulates, sensitive installations and prominent public places.

The provincial police chief said that the security personnel must increase the effectiveness of snap checking, patrolling and busting actions besides enhancing intelligence-sharing system on the provincial level.

However, perspectives of the new directives were not yet clarified in current scenario whether it was ordered citing heightened escalation between Pakistan and India or internal security threats.

Earlier in the day, Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh, Major General Muhammad Saeed also chaired a high-level meeting on law and order situation in Karachi, ARY News reported.

The meeting reviewed the progress of plans implemented for bringing improvements in overall law and order situation and security measures ahead of the final match of the mega cricketing event, Pakistan Super League (PSL) 4 in Karachi.

Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi, Commissioner Karachi, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, AIG CTD [Counter-Terrorism Department] and other high-level officials also attended the meeting.

Special security measures will be made to void any terror-related incident during matches scheduled in the metropolis. The meeting decided to make fool-proof security measures for the upcoming match of PSL 4.

According to PSL 2019 schedule, overall five matches will be played in Karachi from March 7-17 including qualifier, eliminator and the grand final.
