Security forces foil terror plot, seize arms cache in Balochistan

KOHLU: The security forces on Sunday thwarted a terror plot by seizing a huge quantity of mortars and a cache of arms during an operation carried out in Balochistan’s Kohlu district.

Kohlu Deputy Commissioner Agha Nadeem Akhtar said the forces carried out an intelligence-based operation in Kahan area of the district and recovered 181 rocket propelled grenades (RPG), 172 RPG fuse, 80 RDS, arms and ammunition.

He said the Levies’ personnel and officials of intelligence agencies took part in the operation carried out under Pakistan Army’s Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the Frontier Corps, intelligence agencies and levies personnel conducted intelligence-based operations (IBOs) and search operations in various parts of Balochistan.

11 terrorists belonging to proscribed Baloch Republican Army (BRA) were arrested from Sanni Shoran and South of Sibbi, it said and added a cache of arms and ammunition were recovered during IBOs in Ilyasi Nullah, Dera Bugti and Dukki.

In another IBO in Qila Saifullah, four improvised explosive devices were also recovered and diffused, the ISPR said.

The law enforcement agencies have stepped up operations against outlaws and militants after three ‘burqa-clad’ terrorists stormed the Peshawar Agricultural Directorate this week, killing at least nine persons including seven students and injuring 35 people.

In October, the Frontier Corps (FC) foiled a major terror plot by recovering a huge quantity of explosive material, arms and ammunition during raids carried out in different parts of Balochistan province, according to the Inter Services Public Relations.

The military’s media wing said the FC personnel conducted intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Grandani , Kohlu and Ghazi Nullah, Uch Naseerabad and recovered 1,300 kilograms of explosives, weapons and ammunition, including submachine guns, rockets and hand grenades.

Besides weapons and ammunition, maps of important areas and communication equipment were also recovered. The explosive material was meant to be used in terrorist activities in the province.
