ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday heavily criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government over its “destructive policies” on foreign and national front, ARY News reported.
Addressing a ceremony to mark the death anniversary of veteran politician Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan in Islamabad, the PPP chief said that he had decided to hold on his criticism before PTI administration completes its 100 days in power but had to speak up because of policies adopted by the “selected government”.
The PPP chief took aim at PTI’s financial policies, foreign policy decisions and “divisive politics” at the national level and said that the ruling party talked of breaking the begging bowl when in opposition but are now trying to run the country through “Chandanomics” (economics of charity/donations) and taxing the poor.
“I had decided to wait for at least 100 days before criticising his policies but had to speak because selected premier (Imran Khan) is making life worse for the poor,” said Bilawal.
He also criticised the PM’s decision to send Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to attend the UN General Assembly session and said that Imran Khan himself should have attended the session to highlight the Kashmir issue at international forum.
“This government’s foreign policy can only be seen on social media,” lamented Bilawal.
‘Zia and Musharraf too tried to construct Kalabagh dam’
The PPP chairman said that PTI government is trying to hide its inexperience by politics of non-issues and controversies like Kalabagh dam.
“Dictators Zia and Musharraf too wanted to construct the Kalabagh dam but failed,” said Bilawal.
He maintained that anyone can come and see how Sindh government is dealing with drought with its limited resources in Thatta, Tharparkar and Badin.
“We are not even being provided water to save our lands from sea water so our question is simple that if you build more dams on Indus river, how will you fill these water reservoirs?,” asked Bilawal.
He added that he has all the right to raise questions on such issues and “raising such questions is no treason”.
Bilawal concluded by saying that better water management and bringing all provinces on board the issue can help Pakistan overcome water crisis.
“Only Council of Common Interests can decide on matters related to water distribution and those decisions can’t be challenged in court,” said Bilawal.
