Senate Chairman proposes increased cooperation with Azerbaijan

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani on Thursday arrived on a official visit to Baku to attend centenary celebrations of the Azerbaijani parliament.

He was received at the Heydar Aliyev international airport by Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova and other officials.

Later, the Senate chairman met with with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev. The Senate chairman said there is need to explore possibility of cooperation in diverse fields including economy.

He proposed a liberal visa regime and direct air connectivity between Pakistan and Azerbaijan to promote bilateral trade, investment and tourism.

He said extension of North-South Transport Corridor to Gwadar Port would ensure the much needed connectivity and boost trade links between the two countries.

Sanjrani said the mutual support on the conflicts of Nagorno-Karabakh and Kashmir testifies to close understanding between Islamabad and Baku.

The Azerbaijan president said Pakistan is an important country and there is huge scope to increase cooperation and strengthen linkages.

The Senate chairman, who is leading a parliamentary delegation, also held meetings with leaders, heads of parliaments and delegates from Ireland, UAE, Egypt, Oman, Kuwait, Bulgaria, South Korea and other countries.

He said Pakistan supports efforts aimed to establish peace and stability in the region.
