Talking to media Anjum Rizvi said that Godil remained stable on Thursday night without ventilator but could not be considered out of danger.

MQM lawmaker Rashid Godil sustained serious bullet wounds in a terrorist attack in Bahadurabad area of Karachi on Tuesday.

Spokesman said that Godil’s heart rate and blood pressure is normal and his condition has been stable.

“His condition will be out of danger when he is shifted out of the ICU, but the doctors do not plan to shift him any time soon,” Rizvi said.

He said when doctors checked his reflexes he moved his hands and feet. Citing doctors Spokesman said the patient has his memory and is able to recognise as well as respond through his reflexes.

Replying a question Rizvi that he is not in the condition to give statement to the law enforcement agencies presently and the doctors will decide in a few days about it.

Earlier, Dr Jahanzeb who caring Rashid Godil in hospital, talking to ARY News, had said that he has started responding. Dr said the bullets have damaged his lungs.

Anjum Rizvi, the spokesperson for the Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) had earlier informed the media that the ventilator was removed from Godil on a trial basis as his condition steadily improving.

 

Guards at LNH manhandle journalists

 

In a latest development, a ruckus erupted between journalists and guards of the Liaquat National Hospital, leading to a clash. The guards of the hospital barred mediamen from proceeding inside the facility to visit the MQM leader. Some of the journalists were brutally injured in the clash when guards used batons and irons sticks to attack photographers and reporters.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Rashid Godil was critically injured in a gun attack on Tuesday.

The hospital spokesman earlier said that Mr Godil was still on partial ventilator support.

The spokesman also said that the injured MQM leader’s lungs had been badly affected in the attack.

Moreover, the New Town police registered an FIR of the attack on complaint of Rashid Godil’s brother-in-law under the anti-terrorism law.

Earlier, hospital spokesman Anjum Rizvi said Godil had been weaned off the ventilator to approximately 60 per cent. Rizvi said that Godil’s mental and kidney functions were normal but his lungs had been badly affected. He added that the patient’s heartbeat and blood pressure were also normal.

” His state is not deteriorating but it is still critical. The next 24 hours will be important for him,” Rizvi said.

Godil, a MNA of MQM was critically injured after unidentified gunmen on a motorbike opened fire on his vehicle in Bahadurabad area of Karachi yesterday.

Mr Godil’s driver Abdul Mateen succumbed to his injuries.

The MQM leader underwent emergency surgery following the attack and doctors had said he was in critical condition and next 24-48 hours are important for his life. He suffered five bullet wounds ─ two in the neck and three in the chest.

Initial preparations for taking Godil off the ventilator were being made, said hospital spokesman Anjum Rizvi while speaking to mediapersons.

The MQM lawmaker was attacked as Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was in talks with senior MQM leadership regarding the party’s resignations from the federal and provincial assemblies, and the Senate last week.

Mr.Godil was aboard a vehicle when armed assailants accosted him on a motorbike and opened indiscriminate fire. Godil was immediately taken to the Liaquat National Hospital.

He was heading to Nine Zero from his residence when the gunmen ambushed him.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has also taken notice of the incident and sought report from IG Sindh.

Mr. Godil was elected member National Assembly from NA-252 (Karachi-XIV) in the General Elections 2013.

At the time the shooting took place, Rashid Godil did not have any security guard with him.

Doctors at the hospital said the MQM leader was in critical condition and next 24-48 hours are important for his health.

According to ARY correspondent,  Godil’s wife and a child were also aboard the car, but they remained safe.

In the latest development, Sindh Health Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar has said the condition of Mr. Godil is now out of danger.

Soon after the news of the attack spread, MQM leaders started to arrive at the hospital to see their injured colleague.

MQM leader and MNA Ali Raza Abidi dismissed rumours that Mr. Godil suffered bullet wounds in neck and head.

No penetration of bullet to neck and head. One bullet in chest, the other has punctured the lung. He is Alhamdolillah on recovery now.
