Death toll in Swat CTD police station blasts rise to 18

SWAT: At least 18 people martyred including 13 policemen and 70 others including a lady police official sustained injuries in twin bomb blasts inside a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Swat’s Kabal town on Monday, ARY News reported. 

According to initial reports, several cops lost their lives and others sustained injuries in two bomb blasts in the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Kabal town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Swat district.

Police said that 10 cops were martyred and 53 others got injured in the bombing incident, whereas, four persons locked up inside the police station were also killed.

Two bomb blasts occurred in Swat’s Kabal Town near the CTD police station. After the explosion, the electricity supply to the area was also disrupted.

Heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) rushed to the scene.

Emergency has been imposed in all hospitals and rescue teams have also reached the site and wounded persons are being shifted to a local hospital.

According to reports, several cops sustained injuries in the bomb explosions and nearby buildings were also damaged.

The building of the police station was completely destroyed in the incident.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the bomb blasts.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah condemned the bombing incident and expressed sorrow over the loss of precious lives. He said that the sacrifices of the martyrs will not be forgotten and the menace of terrorism will be uprooted.

The interior minister sought a report on the bombing incident.

DIG CTD

DIG CTD Khalid Sohail said that two bomb explosions took place inside the police station where weaponry and mortar shells were also stored. “The explosions might be occurred due to the mortar shells or it may be a suicide blast.”

Sohail said that the explosion was not carried out at the police station’s gate. “It was the old building of the CTD police station and mostly offices and personnel were shifted to the new building.”
