ISLAMABAD: Emphasizing a dovish and polite approach to situation arising after submission of Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT)’s report, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has urged party leaders to refrain from making unwarranted criticism towards army, judiciary and other state institutions.

Informed sources said the chief minister cautioned the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers while addressing the parliamentary party meeting yesterday (Friday).

Shahbaz also advised the premier to strengthen his legal team and contest the case in full measure.

The sources further apprised that another senior party leader asserted that it is the need of the hour to deal with the prevailing challenges cautiously.

As the premier announced to contest the JIT finding in the top court while addressing the meeting, Sharif family’s top counsel Khawaja Muhammad Haris has prepared a draft of objections on the JIT report, which is expected to be submitted to the court soon, sources further said.

The Panamagate six-member probing team, formed in line with Supreme Court’s verdict announced on April 20, to probe money trail of Sharif family’s offshore properties.

The JIT in its report, submitted on July 10, charged the ruling family with perjury, having disproportionate income and living beyond their means. It said Sharif failed to satisfactorily answer most of the questions put to him during his appearance before investigators on June 15.

Following the report, the opposition parties demanded the premier to tender resignation. However, the ruling party leaders remarked that they will contest the ‘concocted’ report in the Supreme Court.
