KARACHI: Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has announced to part ways with Peshawar Zalmi, Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, as its president and a player, ARY News reported.

He said he was ending his services for Peshawar Zalmi due to personal reasons. He said after winning the PSL 2017 trophy for Zalmi, he was looking forward to join another team now.

The pinch hitter expressed best wishes for Peshawar Zalmi and said his Peshawar fans were with him wherever he would go.

“Won the trophy with one team, (it’s) time for another. I am announcing my end of service as president and player of Peshawar Zalmi team due to my personal reasons,” he wrote on his social media account.

“My best wishes with Peshawar Zalmi and as far as my Peshawar fans are concerned I know they are with me wherever I go,” he said.

Afridi had led Peshawar Zalmi in first edition of PSL after that he quit as a captain for the next year. Then, he played key role throughout the tournament as an all-rounder this year as Zalmi bagged PSL 2017 trophy.

God knows what had been brewing between Lala and Peshawar Zalmi management as he had hinted at leaving the team last year in June.

In an interview with Cricket Australia website, he had said, “I am a professional cricketer and whichever franchise needs me I am available for it. It is not that I am confined to Peshawar Zalmi only.”

“No doubt that my current team is Peshawar Zalmi but before moving forward I need to sort out some things with Javed Afridi (owner and chairman of Peshawar Zalmi),” he added.
