Charming actor Shahid Kapoor has revealed why he played the role of Rawal Ratan Singh in “the most controversial movie of Bollywood to date” which is being termed by some critics as an underdog role.
“The role I have played of Rawal Ratan is performed for the viewers only. Rawal Ratan is an unsung hero of Chittor’s dynasty and I wanted people of this nation to know about his sacrifice, how he diligently fights an army ten times bigger than his own, and how he even loses his life in a bid to save his better half,” he said.
The film had to undergo a lot of controversies before it could see the light of day.
Talking to media, Shahid Kapoor also shunned the notion that the magnum opus movie of celebrated director Sanjay Leela Bhansali distorted any historical fact and brought disrepute to Rajput clan.
“Now that audiences’ verdict has been announced in favor of the movie and they say that more glorification to Rajputs was not possible than presented in Padmaavat by Sanjay sir,” he said.
He said doing this role was a challenging task for him and his wife had extended her full support throughout this time.
The young actor said the response from viewers, critics and film fraternity was overwhelming for him.
“I was very nervous prior to its release. (Now) all the people have showered praise on me for they believe that I have very smartly played the understated and underdog role,” he said
Talking about the incident of vandalising Padmaavat set at the outset of its shooting and roughing up Sanjay Bhansali, he said he was shaken up by the incident. “I don’t think that any movie has gone through more controversy in India than Padmaavat,” he said.
