Actor Shakeel awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz!

The veteran actor was awarded the star in recognition of his services to Pakistan in the field of Arts. Shakeel has been around since the long time and has achieved recognition for his acting prowess. Known for his immensely popular Uncle Urfi and playing Mehboob from Aangan Terha. His popular play Parchaiyan was also adorned by the public and was the first ever drama serial to be shown in color.

At first declared a heartthrob by the Pakistani media, he was also the first Pakistani to be featured on the cover of Herald magazine. For his stellar performances in the Pakistani drama department, he has won numerous awards in the past. Trophies he has conquered include the Pride of Performance in 1992, KaraFilm Festival award and Lifetime Achievement award as well.

His look in Uncle Urfi was also subject to much appreciation and intrigues, including his thick French beard and popped up glasses. Written by Hasina Moin and directed by Mohsin Ali, he starred alongside Shahla Ahmed in the show. The show was popular to such an extent that it established Yusuf Kamal as one of the most sought after drama actors of his time and even to this day, he is one of the well known faces of Pakistani TV serials.

It is highly appreciative and encouraging of the Pakistani Government to award an actor like Yusuf Kamal with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz. There is no doubt the man deserves it on account of his services to Pakistani entertainment since more than four decades. The young crop of talent that has emerged in recent years can benefit a lot from Shakeel’s talents.
