Sharjah: Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in first ODI

SHARJAH: Pakistan has defeated Sri Lanka by 11 runs in the first ODI off 5-matches series at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, ARY News reported on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka chasing 323 were off to a breezing start but Tillakaratne Dilshan departed of Junaid Khan after scoring 30 runs and his partner Kusal Perera was the second man to be dismissed making 60 runs.
Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews along Dinesh Chandimal played watchfully inning but their stand comes to an end with a wonderful run out by Saeed Ajmal.
Chandimal scored 49 runs while Mathews made 31.
Sri Lankan tail enders contributed well and reached close enough to the target but weren’t able to brought Sri Lanka home and remained short by 11 runs. Sekkugge Prasanna and Sachithra Senanayake posted 42 runs each.
Earlier,Pakistan winning the toss decided to bat first. Debutant Sharjeel Khan scored half-century and set Pakistan’s series off to a bright start, he was well supported by Mohammed Hafeez, who posted a century avoiding risk almost as a rule, content to mine gaps in the outfield that Sharjeel had created and only showing aggression to the more benign bowling in Sri Lanka’s ranks, like Tillakaratne Dilshan’s offspin.
