SHC hears bail petitions of Chakra Goth police attack case accused

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday heard bail petitions of accused workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Chakra Goth police van attack case, ARY News reported.

A bench of the high court hearing bail petitions of the MQM workers booked in the case.

Defence lawyer, Azra Iqbal Advocate, told the bench that the prosecution resorting to delaying tactics against her client Gul Mohammad and other accused.

Seven policemen were killed and several others were injured when a gang of gunmen opened fire on a van carrying policemen in Korangi’s Chakra Goth on August 19, 2011.

Government prosecutor informed the court that another accused of the case has been arrested and preliminary proceedings are in progress.

The defence lawyer said that the case proceeding is further slowing down in the pretext of the arrest of accused Imran alias Mani.

The bench observed that all accused claim their innocence and no person confesses guilt of a crime.

The bench directed the Anti-Terrorism Court hearing the case, to conclude the trial within given period.

The prosecutor informed the bench that Kamran Madhuri and other accused have been in jail.

The prosecution in earlier hearing said that after the high court orders, the witnesses are being presented in the trial. The prosecution itself wants rapid proceeding of the case, he added.
