SHC adjourns plea challenging recent hike in PoL prices till May 30

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday asked the concerned authorities to apprise the court regarding procedure of hiking petroleum prices, ARY News reported.
The bench of the Sindh’s top court took up the plea challenging recent hike in the petroleum products, here today.
On last hearing of the case, the federal government, petroleum ministry and other concerned authorities were asked to ensure submission of their reply into the matter latest by May 16.
The federal government and other concerned departments failed to submit their response in the court despite notice.
Hearing was adjourned till May 30 on the request of the respondents’ lawyers till May 30.
Earlier on May 7, a noisy scene witnessed in Senate session, when an opposition senator criticized the government over recent hike in petroleum prices.

On May 3, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting had approved an increase in prices of petroleum products by as much as Rs. 9 per litre for the month of May.
With the increase, the per litre price of petrol stands at Rs. 108. The meeting also approved the proposed increase in diesel price by Rs. 4.89 per litre, light diesel by Rs. 6.40 and kerosene by Rs. 7.46.
