Shehzad Roy calls for educating children about sexual abuse

KARACHI: Singer and social activist Shehzad Roy on Thursday called for educating children about sexual abuse in schools to prevent incidents like the recent rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl Zainab, ARY News reported.

“We should have a life skill-based curriculum to demonstrate the difference between a good touch and bad touch and how to report their parents if they feel the other person is talking inappropiately,” he said while talking duirng ARY News program ‘Off The Record’ on the tragic murder incident of Zainab Ansari in Kasur.

He said a research claimed that every fifth Pakistani child had been a victim of sexual abuse and 90 percent of the sexual abuses were conducted by close relative, friend, teacher or servant.

Roy added that such crimes are also rampant in countries like United Kingdom and United States which means only better policing cannot solve the issue.

“If the UK and US could not control it then it means that it is too difficult to handle this menace,” he said.

Body of a minor girl, Zainab, was found dumped in a garbage heap near Kashmir Chowk in Kasur on Tuesday.

In the light of initial postmortem, police said the minor was sexually assaulted before her murder. The girl was strangled to death after being raped multiple times, police said.
