ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Senator Sherry Rehman has declared Shaikh Rashid’s claim for Public Accounts Committee (PAC) membership a non-issue.
According to ARY News, Sherry Rehman refuted the statement of the federal railways minister about the Speaker’s powers.
Rehman in a statement said the Speaker have discretionary powers with regard to the PAC adding that only a party decides for a member’s inclusion in the PAC.
PPP senator urged everyone that the membership of the PAC should not be turned into a ‘political bout’.
Senator Rehman claimed that even Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is not on one page over the matter of Shaikh Rashid’s membership of PAC. The party’s members saying that their members were already present in the committee.
“There is no issue to create a dispute over the membership of Shaikh Rashid,” the PPP senator said.
She said the issue of naming Shehbaz Sharif as chairman of the PAC was decided with the government. She questioned the change of mood of the government with regard to Shehbaz Sharif.
The government should clarify why it is now talking about removing Shehbaz Sharif from the PAC. They should be committed to their decision of naming Sharif as the chairman of PAC, she said.
“Why the government takes u-turn on its every decision,” Sherry Rehmand asked. Even the PTI members don’t want to remove him, the senator added.
