ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly hall witnessed a moment of laughter when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s senior leader Shireen Mazari referred, though inadvertently, to Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq as ‘yaar’ (friend).
During a speech regarding human trafficking, the PTI lawmaker unintentionally referred to the speaker as “yaar” which was brought to attention by Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Shaikh Salahuddin.
He stated that the PTI senior leader referred to Sadiq as “yaar” which prompted the speaker to seek clarification from Shireen Mazari.
Swayed by this question, the PTI leader asked the NA speaker if he called her ‘yaar’.
“I did not call you ‘yaar’ you called me that,” Ayaz Sadiq responded, adding that he wouldn’t dare to do that.
“Why will I call you ‘yaar’, I call you Speaker,” Mazari laughed as the whole assembly fell into a fit of laughter.
As Mazari continued to address the speaker, she once again unintentionally referred to the speaker as ‘yaar’ and Sadiq immediately pointed it out. However, the PTI leader denied calling him ‘yaar’ again.
“I was only responding to your question and asking why I will call you ‘yaar’,” Shireen Mazari maintained.
Then the speaker asked PTI fellow party leaders, Asad Umar and Shafqat Mehmood, seated behind her to verify whether she said it or not, Mazari responded,
“I can call them both ‘yaar’, why will I call you that.”
The speaker then concluded that matter saying he would not expunge the remarks but rather take them in a lighter way. The Speaker then stirred up another laughter in the Assembly when he humorously said: “Dont refer to me as Yaar again in front of everyone.”
