Showers bring relief, misery in parts of Pakistan

KARACHI: Thunderstorm and rainfall in different parts of the country brought some relief to people battered by sweltering heatwave, though their suffering continued owing to disruptions in the supply of electricity, ARY News reported.

The hailstorm and showers in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore and some other parts of the country brought the mercury level down much to the relief of the people reeling under the sizzling hot weather.

Light showers in several areas of Karachi on Wednesday night turned the weather pleasant, bringing the mercury down. Light rainfall is expected throughout the month with the weather to remain partly cloudy, said the meteorological department.

Meanwhile, at least four persons were killed while four others, including a woman, wounded in different incidents of roof-collapse in Lahore and other areas.

A labourer was killed and three others injured when a roof of a godown collapsed in Marghzar area of Lahore.

Another incident was reported in Mustafa Park area where a woman namely Kausar and her son Bilal suffered injuries when the roof of their house collapsed.

Three others were reported to have been killed in a similar incident in Toba Tek Singh’s Tehsil Peer Mahal.

According to the meteorological department, a westerly wave is affecting upper and central parts of the country which likely to persist for the next two to three days.

Thunderstorm with gusty winds expected at scattered places in the next twenty four hours in Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions, Fata, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
