Sindh CM orders vigilance after cyclone alert

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Thursday directed the local administration and all concerned departments to keep vigilance over an alert issued by the PDMA.

“According to the weather forecast heavy rainfall is likely in several districts of Sindh,” chief minister said.

“All necessary preparations should be completed, which needed to deal with any emergency situation,” CM Murad Ali Shah has said in a statement.

The chief minister also directed the health department to ensure that the province’s hospitals improving their arrangements and also ensure staff attendance.

He also instructed the fisheries department to ensure fishermen’s safety amid extraordinary sea conditions.

“Continue monitoring the embankments of rivers, streams and other water passages,” Murad Ali Shah directed the irrigation department.

Sindh Rainfall

In the last 24 hours, the Thar Parkar district received the highest rainfall in Sindh, 347mm across seven tehsils, (Diplo 74mm, Mithi 70, Chhachhro 53, Kaloi 41, Dahli 39, Islam Kot 38 and Nagar Parkar 32mm) the PMD said in its rainfall update.

Karachi recorded a cumulative 190mm of rain with Surjani Town receiving the highest amount (30mm).

Mirpur Khas district witnessed 143mm of rain while Hyderabad and Badin got a close 116mm and 112mm, respectively.

The Met Office shared that the maximum wind speed was recorded at Masroor Base (67km/hour).
