Sindh govt announces changes in new academic year

KARACHI: Sindh education department on Monday decided that the new academic year will start from June 1 in the province, ARY News reported.

“Exams for the classes 1st to 8th will be held from June 1 to June 15. After the results, students will be promoted to next classes, said Saeed Ghani, while addressing a press conference, after chairing a meeting of the steering committee on education department.

The minister said examination of ninth and metric will start from June 15 and will end on June 30. The result will be announced on August 15, he added.

Furthermore, it was also decided that intermediate exams will commence from July 06. All the exams will be held in afternoon.

Earlier, Ghani chaired a meeting of the steering committee of the education department discussed matters related to examinations in schools after reopening of the educational institutions.

The department officials’ meeting also decided opening of the new academic year from June.

The education minister in the meeting also directed the administrations of all schools to keep their institutions closed in the ongoing emergency vacations due to apprehensions about spread of the novel coronavirus.

The session of the steering committee of provincial education department was attended by the secretary education, secretary colleges education, director general private schools and other concerned officials.

The meeting considered over the strategy with regard to the annual examinations and other relevant issues.

The government had earlier decided to keep all educational institutions closed across the country till April 5 to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
